The Lottery Winners look set to be in the running at the top of the charts with their new album ‘Anxiety Replacement Therapy’.

The midweek chart shows that the band are currently leading the way, battling huge names such as Jessie Ware and The National in what is a huge underdog story.

It would be the first ever top 10 album for the indie-pop band from Leigh, near Manchester. The band have a pop-up shop in Leigh open until Thursday 4th May. It would be the first no.1 album to come out of Leigh.

On the chart battle, frontman Thom Rylance said: ‘It’s mad to be in this position for our little band from Leigh that aren’t so little anymore. We’re going toe to toe with some amazing acts who sell out arenas worldwide, but we’re delighted to be in it and we’ve got the best fans in the world.

Released on Modern Sky UK, the album features collaborations with Frank TurnerBoy George, and Shaun Ryder. Thom spoke to NME about how these collaborations came about.

The band recently completed a sold out UK tour, with further dates to follow throughout the year including at festivals such as Glastonbury and Isle of Wight.

The band also announced over the weekend their biggest headline show to date at the O2 Apollo in Manchester on 1stDecember this year.

On the meaning behind ‘Anxiety Replacement Therapy’, Thom said:

“Each of the albums in my collection are a self-help tape for me. If I listen to Paul Simon’s Graceland, it’s because I know it’ll put me in a good mood. If I play The Queen Is Dead by The Smiths, it’s because I want to embrace feeling sad. We wanted to present ‘Anxiety Replacement Therapy’ as a self-help tape for anyone playing it.”
