With seven Top 10 singles, three Top 10 albums and a rich catalogue of timeless songs including ‘Walkway’, ‘Alright’, ‘Fine Time’ and ‘Flying’, Cast were one of the big success stories of the Britpop era. Yet frontman John Power’s gift for sparkling melodies and instantly additive hooks remains as strong as ever, as the band will demonstrate when they release their new single ‘Love Is The Call’ today which immediately received the love of Liam Gallagher on Twitter.
‘Love Is The Call’ is a surging cocktail of psychedelia played with poised power-pop punch, topped by call-and-response backing vocals that add an exuberant rush to John’s distinctive voice. The band hold nothing back, their relentless rhythms capturing the driving power of their live shows. The result is a song that adds a subtle twist to the Cast sound that fans have come to love.
John Power says, “‘Love is the Call’ is the title track off the new Cast album. It’s a psychedelic pop song, full of bouncing rhythms with soaring melodies and harmonies. It’s a cosmic call to arms, for Love is the Call… Calling… Calling.”
Not only is ‘Love Is The Call’ the first new music from Cast in six years, but it’s also the first track from their new album which will follow early in 2024. The band – consisting of classic ‘All Change’-era members John Power (vocals/guitar), Liam ‘Skin’ Tyson (guitar) and Keith O’Neill (drums) with John also playing bass, just as he did with The La’s – recorded the album with the Grammy Award winning producer Youth (The Verve, The View, Shed Seven) at his Space Mountain studios in Granada, Spain, early this year.
John has hinted that the new album will feel like a missing link between his time with The La’s and Cast’s first breakthrough with their debut album ‘All Change’. Expect more information on the new album to be revealed soon…
John Power is currently embarking upon an acoustic solo tour which sees his playing favourites from both Cast and his solo career, alongside some new material. Details of all remaining shows and accompanying ticket information are available HERE.
And of course new music from Cast could well mean a return to touring… The band have played select gigs this year, which have included a Greatest Hits homecoming inLiverpool, large outdoor show as guests to Richard Ashcroft, Shed Seven and Ian Brown, and select festival shows.
